Born in Ireland in 1979, Andy Devane studied painting at Limerick School of Art and Design. Since moving to Italy in 2000 the principal subject of his paintings has related to the city of Rome. His work combines the factual with the fantastical and is painted in a classic style with strong attention to detail.
He returned to Ireland in 2007 but not before staging his first solo exhibition Roman Reflections in 2005 as well as participating in a variety of group shows in the Italian capital. In early 2008 he held an exhibition entitled Affinità in Dublin's Italian Institute of Culture followed later that year with Roma Antica in the Pontifical Irish College, Rome.
His first UK exhibition Carnevale took place in 2010 in Highgate Gallery, London, after which he returned to live in Rome. He now paints from his balcony studio near St Peter's and his most recent exhibition took place in Rome in May 2011.
